Forever and a Day

Mirage

Copyright 2006 by Christopher M Solaas.

Just like the heat waves on a blacktop road can form a mirage like a cool pool of water to the thirsty traveler, the world tends to tell us to trust our heart, to 'do what feels right'.

But MY bible says that 'The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked, who can know it?' in Jeremiah 17:9.

It also says that 'There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.' in Proverbs 14:12 (and also in Proverbs 16:25, think maybe God thought it important enough to repeat?)

Lyrics

Verse 1:
Walking down a dusty blacktop highway in the country
On either side there waves an endless field of yellow wheat
Well, the country boy in me is glad to be on this adventure
But the city boy is melting in this heat.
With a thirst as big as Texas, and a canteen full of emptiness
I spy a pool of water far ahead upon the road
But you know, I didn't run ahead to get a drink Because I know,
It really wasn't there at all, it only seemed to be

Chorus:
It's a mirage. Yes, my eyes were really fooled,
It's a mirage. It's a disappearing pool.
Yes, my eyes, they will deceive me, But I want to know the truth
So I'll trust the Lord my God with all my heart
Not a mirage.
A mirage.

Verse 2:
Sitting in my living room, I watch another movie,
Where the hero wins the battle, gets the girl, and saves the day.
And in the end, he's told that he has won the victory because
He trusted in his heart and chased the clouds of doubt away.
But my bible tells me that my heart is quite deceitful
And it's desperately wicked, who can understand it's ways?
And it leads me in a path that may seem right But leads to death and hell
And so I'll trust the God who knows my name

Chorus:
Not a mirage Yes my heart can really fool me
A mirage It's the devil's favorite tool.
Yes my heart, it will deceive me, But I want to know the truth
So I'll trust the Lord my God with all my heart
Not a mirage
Not a mirage.
